Typing

As a computer nerd that’s also trying to build a career in this space, typing is something I do a lot, and will continue to do until my hands turn into dust. Thus, I’ve worked hard to make my typing as efficient and comfortable as possible.

Non-QWERTY Layout

I think QWERTY is a relic of the past. It also gets painful to type on after extended periods of time. I have been typing on Colemak-DH full-time since March of 2024, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision. My typing isn’t faster but it’s definitely more efficient. I simply don’t need to move my fingers as much, and I can type for much longer without feeling any kind of strain of fatigue.

Ergonomic Keyboard

To complement Colemak, I also use a split, columnar staggered keyboard. It’s the most ergonomic and comfortable option for me. I love having my hands shoulder-width when I type, and minimizing lateral finger movements feels great. I also maintain a custom version of the firmware, with modifiers, symbols and layers in exactly the right places. The feeling of having a typing setup that’s truly your own, fine-tuned to be absolutely perfect for your own needs, is really unbeatable.
